What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is generally but not always characterised by an unsettling feeling that is associated with apprehension, uneasiness, fear, worry or dread. Anxiety can often occur without warning and is therefore different to fear, which happens in response to an observed event. Anxiety is usually the reaction to dangers that are thought to be uncontrollable or unavoidable.
Some of the symptoms of anxiety may include -
Constantly worry about things that are beyond their control
Worry out of proportion to the event
Suffer from bouts of excessive sweating
Heart palpitations
Nausea
Tightness in chest
Shortness of breath
Panic Attacks
Counselling & psychotherapy can help you to demystify your anxiety and then help you to learn the skills you will need to manage and control it.
At Oldcastle Counselling Centre, we will help you to deconstruct those situations when your anxiety strikes. This will help you to gain an understanding of why you are suffering from anxiety. From here we will challenge and attempt to change how you experience and react in these same circumstances. This will involve learning and practicing skills and techniques in the safety of the counselling room with the aim of utilising them in ‘real life’ situations.
